A benign tumor of the adrenal medulla.
Tumor growth causes the excretion of epinephrine (adrenalin) and norepinephrine (the precursor to epinephrine, a neurotransmitter).
- hypertension (high blood pressure)
- palpitations (a rapid and irregular heart beat)
- severe headache
- diaphoresis (sweating)
- erythema (redness, flushing or the skin as a result of dialted blood vessels)
- muscle spasms
