A benign tumor of the adrenal medulla.

Tumor growth causes the excretion of epinephrine (adrenalin) and norepinephrine (the precursor to epinephrine, a neurotransmitter).


  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • palpitations (a rapid and irregular heart beat)
  • severe headache
  • diaphoresis (sweating)
  • erythema (redness, flushing or the skin as a result of dialted blood vessels)
  • muscle spasms
