A hereditary condition where osseous hypertrophy (increased bone development) occurs around the oval window. This results in ankylosis of the stapes to the oval window. The stapes, the bone closest to the oval window of the ear becomes fused to the oval window.

Clinical Presentation:

This causes conductive deafness as the sound waves cannot be transmitted through the ossicular chain to oval window, then the coclea to auditory receptors and nerves.

Stapedectomy – removal of the fused stapes

Replacement oif the stapes with an artificial prosthesis to restore ossicular motion, facilitating sound wave conduction.
