Transurethral prostate resection (TURP)

prostateTransurethral prostate resection is a surgical procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The prostate gland surrounds the urethra and produces seminal fluid. Through the normal aging process cells of the prostate gland overgrow and can put pressure on the urethra constricting the passage of urine.

Transurethral prostate resection is a procedure where cellular overgrowth of the prostate around the urethral is removed by electrocautery and sharp dissection. This procedure restores the urethral diameter.
