
- aldosterone hypersecreation by adrenal glands
- most commonly affecting those in the 30-50 yr age group
- greater prevalence in women
Aldosterone:

Etiology
- cortical adenoma
- idiopathic cortical hyperplasia
- renal tumor – increase renin secetion
Manifestation
- HTN due to Na2+ and H2O retention
- hypokalemia (potassium is excreted by the kidneys as more Na2+ is retained)
- alkalosis (high [aldosterone] causes H+ ion secretion)
