This model of health was first introduced by psychiatrist George Engel. This model regards health from a holistic perspective. It incorporates biological, psychological and sociological aspects of wellbeing into the healing process. This model is instrumental in shifting the focus of healthcare from one of disease to the individual’s health. The model chiefly recognizes psychosocial factors (e.g. beliefs, relationships, stress) greatly impact recovery the progression of and recuperation from illness and disease.
